Devil May Care

the boy
was sweet
his crystal skin
tasted of sugar

feathers sprouted
just below his shoulder blades
around the stems
black cracks contrasted innocence

the white of wings
had paled
slowly was shining through
what the fall from heaven
would take away

his face untouched
by years and worries
except for the shade of rosé
romantic faith blessed him with
before it forced gravity to pull

to crash
and burn
fire started crunching
to paint angels ailerons
from grey to black to dust

blue, blue, wide eyes sparkled
when they met the world
even before the ashes had settled
he smiled, alive

freed from clouds
escaped from holy silhouettes
he had found his sanctuary
the day he took the fall for Lucifer
